Quick full install
Step By Step
Durafit Seat Covers are specific to the year, make and model of your vehicle. Our pattern makers have designed our seat covers after a vehicles original interior, taking into account the placement of seat belts and manual or electric controls.
Installation of Headrests
For seats with adjustable headrests, remove headrests by pushing buttons on headrest bases and pulling headrest up or if there are holes in bases, push a wire into the holes to release springs while pulling upward. Once headrests are removed install headrest covers and set aside.
Installation of Seat Backs
The back of the seat cover will have a pocket, so you will need orientate the cover accordingly and slide down seat till headrest mounts are lined up. Match seams and push flap through gap in seat and join Velcro to the inside of the back if they are two piece covers. If the back and base are sewn together, you need to first releasing the flap closing the back of the seat off by unhooking the plastic hooks attached to the seat frame underneath the seat. Then fit the seat base and back covers and connect the webbing straps through the buckles and tighten with a steady pressure. Do not over tighten as there needs to be give as the seat is depressed and the buckles are sewn on.
Installation Seat Bottom
To attach the seat base, there will be different attaching methods depending on if the seat is manual or electric. If there is a plastic fascia, the seat covers are designed to go behind it for a clean finish. For electric seats, there will be white plastic strips sewn into the edge of the cover that will snap in behind the plastic fascia on the outside of the seat and a Velcro strap on the inside that goes around the track and back to itself.
Installation of Armrest Cover
The armrest covers included will be desinged specifically for the armrests in the vehicle and therefore have the same shape. Identify the opening of the cover and slide onto the armrest.
Installation of Center Console
Installation of Manual Seats
For manual seats, there will be webbing and Velcro straps. Use a plastic ruler to slide Velcro straps behind the plastic fascia so you can join under the seat. Cross straps are important for cover stability so get a tight as you can. The best access is behind the seat so you can get both hands in to join Velcro. Install headrest covers the same way, usually easier once they are back in the seat. Same concept for the rear seats. Once the seat base is removed in sedans, the fold forward sections can be installed. If the rear seat has a solid back rest, then unbolt at the bottom to install covers. Remember to make these vehicles, the manufacturers develop quick attacking systems for seats so often the wire frame of a rear seat will simple hook into a tab or a receptor and is a pressure fit. See make specific rear seat instructions below.
More details for Toyota vehicles.
* Since 2005, most Toyota vehicles have a flap that closed off the back of the front seats. To install the seat covers, unhook the plastic hooks under the seat that attach the elastic from this flap to the seat frame. Re-attach after you install the covers. * In Toyotas that have the passenger seat which folds flat forward, the covers will be in two separate pieces for top and bottom. The driver’s seat will be a one piece covers to facilitate the flap on the back of the seat. * The seat covers are designed to go behind the plastic fascia on the base of the front seats, use a plastic ruler to push Velcro to below the seat so you can join the cross straps, essential for keeping your seat covers in place. * In Toyota sedans, the rear seat base is removed by pulling up at the anchor points 10 inches from each end in the front of the seat. This is a friction fit so the amount of pressure required varies and a flat bar can also be used. After installing the covers with cross straps, position tabs in plastic receptors and push down hard so they lock. * If there are covers for the bolsters on each side of the fold down sections in the back seats. To remove bolsters undo 12mm bolt at the bottom and lift bolster upwards to unhook. Do NOT remove Prius bolsters, tuck in plastic strips on covers, each side different shape. * For center seat belts, put the seat cover under the belt and join at back.
Ford Trucks
* 1. Headrests Removal - To remove headrests you will need to press the buttons on both shafts (located where the poles of the headrest meet the base) at the same time while pulling the headrest up. This is done easily whith a little extra help. Often times you will find that there is a button on the base of one of the poles and a small hole on the other. If this is the case insert a paper clip or wire into the hole while pushing in the button on the opposite base.
2. Seat Bottom Installation - Most newer Ford models have electric controls and levers on the plastic base of the seat. The the side of the seat bottom cover will have either a velcro strap or a plastic strip sewn into it.
If your cover has a strap you will need to feed it down between the plastic facia and cushion to the floor of the cab. Once it is fed through to the floor, you will then need to join it to the corresponding velcro strap located on the opposite side of the seat.
The plastic strip version is designed to fit behind the plastic fascia to hold the covers in place, as you cannont get a cross strap to fit through to the floor. Since the seat is inverted at that locationi, you will need to pull the fascia out a small amount in order to push the plastic strip in.
* Line the seams of the seat cover with seams in the original seats so the seat covers are not twisted. * Back seats which do not come off the rear wall of the truck attach to the carpet on the top and the frame on the bottom and sides. * In rear seats where the seat bases hinge up against the back, to achieve the largest space between the back rests and cab wall, hold the bottoms at 45 and work from the underneath the seat. If you need help with installation, auto accessory or upholstery businesses have experience in this area. Most of the time the new car dealers have no experience in seat covers and are the most expensive for any installations. Do NOT Scotchguard as already Teflon treated. Hang dry, no dryer use.
